    The SIMATIC S7-1500 controller series has been supplemented with two controllers in compact design, CPU 1511C-1 PN and CPU 1512C-1 PN. Theses two new compact controllers are based on the innovated firmware version V1.8 of the standard SIMATIC S7-1500 controllers.

    The S7-1500C CPUs are based on the modular controllers of the SIMATIC S7-1500 series and offer additional digital and analog inputs and outputs directly on the CPU. Just like the modular CPUs of the SIMATIC S7-1500 series, the compact SIMATIC S7-1500 controllers can be expanded with modules that are 25 mm or 35 mm wide.

    The 1511C-1 PN and 1512C-1 PN CPUs are suitable for applications in series and special-purpose machine manufacturing with mid-range requirements for program size and processing speed.

    The 1511C-1PN and 1512C-1 PN CPUs can be used as PROFINET IO controllers or as distributed intelligence (PROFINET I-device). The integrated PROFINET IO IRT interface supports isochronous mode and is designed as a 2-port switch, enabling a linear topology to be configured in the system.

    Integrated digital and analog inputs/outputs on the CPU permit direct connection to the process. Both CPUs, CPU 1511C-1 PN and CPU 1512C-1 PN, have 5 analog inputs that can be used to detect analog process **s such as pressure or temperature. 4 of the 5 integrated analog inputs can be used for current or voltage measurement and one input for a resistance test. The two analog outputs integrated directly on the CPU convert a 16-bit digital value into a current or a voltage and output this value to the process. They are suitable, for example, for controlling proportional valves.

    The digital inputs can be used to detect 24 V DC **s from the system directly on the controller. The integrated counters can detect fast **s up to 100 kHz and evaluate the counter reading or the current velocity without additional modules directly in the controller. The velocity can be output as frequency, period or as velocity standardized by the user.
    The integrated digital outputs operate 24 V DC voltages and thus forward internal **s from the controller to the system.
    Each high speed counter can be assigned a digital output. Integrated comparators permit fast responses depending on the counter reading.
    The motion control functions of the CPU can use the integrated counters as position actual value and the analog outputs as speed setpoint output.

    The front connector for the integrated I/O is the push-in connector that is used for the 25 mm wide input and output modules (89257659). These front connectors are included in the product package of the CPU 1511C-1 PN or the CPU 1512C-1 PN and do not have to be ordered separately.

    PROFINET
    The CPU 1511C-1 PN and 1512C-1 PN support PROFINET with IRT and thus permits short, predictable response times, fast, deterministic data exchange with IO devices and a high immunity to interference from non-real-time data communications. Both CPUs can be IO controller or I-device in PROFINET IO. 
    Up to 128 I/O devices can be operated on each CPU via the integrated interface. In addition, the CPUs can be expanded with CMs and CPs (PROFNET and/or PROFIBUS) so that a total of up to 256 distributed I/O devices can be connected to a CPU 1511C-1PN or CPU 1512C-1 PN.
    If the CPUs are operated as I-devices, they can be configured as a shared device for up to 4 IO controllers.

     

    Option handling for distributed configuration and in the network
    As all SIMATIC S7-1500 controllers, the compact CPUs offerconfiguration control (option handling) to configure the maximum configuration of a controllerand to operate any versions (options) that deviate from this configuration.
    Users can vary the central configuration using the configuration control as long as the actual configuration can be derived from the configured configuration of a maximum configuration.

    "Option handling in the network" also supports easy handling of options with PROFINET IO systems and an automatic system-supported adaptation of the target topology according to the device sequence in the PROFINET line. Automatic initialization of the PROFINET devices is supported even with varying topology.


    Security Integrated
    As all SIMATICS7-1500 controllers, the compact CPUs 1511C-1 PN and 1512C-1 PN in combination with STEP 7 offer a password-based know-how protection against unauthorized reading and changing of program blocks.
    Copy protection offers better protection against unauthorized reproduction of program blocks. With copy protection, individual blocks on the SIMATIC memory card can be tied to its serial number or the serial number of the CPU so that the block can only be run if the configured memory card is inserted into the CPU. Furthermore, four different security access levels are available for the controller to assign different access rights to different user groups. Improved manipulation protection allows changed or unauthorized transfers of engineering data to be detected by the controller.


    Integrated system diagnostics
    Integrated system diagnostics is activated by default on the 1511C-1 PN and 1512C-1 PN CPUs. System diagnostics information is displayed consistently and in plain text in the TIA Portal, HMI and web server, even for messages from the drives and are also possible in the CPU's STOP state. If new hardware components are configured, the diagnostic information is updated automatically.

     

    Integrated technology
    As all SIMATIC S7-1500 controllers, the compact CPUs offer comprehensive control functionality using blocks that can be easily configured. 
    Integrated motion control functions for controlling speed and positioning axes, support for external encoders, and for positional accuracy gearing between axes are also available. Analog axes, for example, or HTL encoders can be operated directly via the integrated I/O. The counting functions have a design compatible to the TM Count 2x24V module in regard to configuration and programming.
    Convenient diagnostics and commissioning tools support the user during commissioning of the drive. Automatic alarm messages to the engineering system and to the HMI make it easier for users to locate errors and thus save time and energy during commissioning.

     

    Trace function
    Tags of the CPU 1511C-1 PN or CPU 1512C-1 PN can be recorded and then evaluated with the trace function. Tags are drive parameters or system and user tags of a CPU, for example. The maximum recording time is limited by the size of the memory. Up to 4 traces can be used simultaneously with the compact SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs.

    Compatibility and necessary components:
    The compact CPUs 1511C-1 PN and 1512C-1 PN are delivered with the innovated CPU firmware version V1.8. Information on the latest features available with the firmware version V1.8 is provided in the entry 109477497.
    STEP 7 Professional V13 SP1 Update4 is required for configuring and programming the CPU 1511C-1 PN and the CPU 1512C-1 PN. Configuration and programming with older STEP 7 versions is not possible.

     

    SIMATIC Memory Card (required for operating the CPU):
    As all S7-1500 CPUs, the compact controllers work with a SIMATIC Memory Card. It is used as a plug-in load memory or for updating the firmware.
    In addition to the STEP 7 project including comments and symbols, additional documentation or csv files (for recipes and archives) can also be stored on the SIMATIC memory card. Data blocks can be created and data stored or read via SFCs on the SIMATIC memory card with the user program.
